"INEC recruitment" now refers to two separate exercises, and they are in very different states. The Independent National Electoral Commission's permanent-staff recruitment for 2026 ran from July 20 to July 27, 2026 and is closed. The ad-hoc staff exercise for the 2027 general elections, run through a portal called INECPRES, opened on September 18, 2026 and stays open until midnight on November 18, 2026. Mixing them up is the most common way applicants waste time.
This site is an independent guide. It is not INEC, does not take applications, and never asks for your NIN, passwords, documents or any payment. Apply only on INEC's own portals, listed on the official links page.
Exercise 1: permanent staff recruitment (closed)
INEC published its vacancy notice on its recruitment portal, recruitment.inecnigeria.org, on Monday, July 20, 2026, with applications closing on Monday, July 27, 2026. The Federal Character Commission carried the same window on its job listing. The exercise covered entry-level roles on Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12, aimed at electoral administration, voter registration, data management, election logistics and related operations.
- Professional cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12): roles such as Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor. BusinessDay's report says applicants needed a bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate and professional certification where relevant, such as COREN, ICAN, MDCN or COBN. - Administrative roles: a data and records role requiring a bachelor's degree or HND with strong computer skills, covered in Administrative Officer II requirements.
- Executive Officer (Assistant Registration Area Officer), Grade Level 07: NCE or equivalent, covered in Executive Officer requirements.
Rules stated in the notice, as reported by BusinessDay and Legit.ng: the process was free, applicants created an account with a NIN and email, a chosen vacancy could not be changed after submission, only one application was allowed, and false information or forged documents meant disqualification and possible prosecution. Where the shortlist stands
As of MASTER JOB's September 7, 2026 update, INEC had not published a confirmed date for the shortlist, and the registration page showed the application window had closed. Any post claiming an exact shortlist date, or a leaked list, should be traced back to an INEC announcement before you trust it. After applying, the safe steps are to watch your application account and registered email and phone. See the shortlist guide. The reported stage order (application, review, shortlisting, assessment, final selection) comes from a third-party guide and may differ in practice, so wait for INEC's own instructions.
Exercise 2: ad-hoc staff for the 2027 elections (open)
INEC issued a public notice on Thursday, September 17, 2026 that INECPRES, the INEC Portal for Recruitment of Election Staff, would open at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18 and close at midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026. Daily Trust and Legit.ng report that INEC plans roughly 1.4 million temporary workers across more than 176,000 polling units. Those recruited will serve at the Presidential and National Assembly elections on January 16, 2027 and the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027. Ad-hoc staff are temporary officials whose engagement ends after the election exercise.
Reported categories include Supervisory Presiding Officers, Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers and Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) personnel. Eligibility depends on the category: for example, the INECPRES page says applicants must not be political party members, must not have shown support for any candidate or party, and must live in the state they select, except RATECH. RAC managers must be heads of, or staff at Grade Level 07 or above in, the school or building hosting the centre, and RATECH applicants need an IT background and belong to a specified INEC ICT category. Media reports list eligible groups as civil servants, serving and former NYSC members, tertiary students, MDA staff, school heads and ICT personnel. INEC advised having a working email and phone number, a personal bank account, a passport photograph, identification, qualification documents and NYSC information where relevant. Scams to watch for
- INEC states that applications are free. Anyone selling forms, slots or "shortlist placement" is not acting for INEC.
- Use only the domains INEC itself publishes. Fake portals copy the design and collect NINs, documents and payments.
- Do not trust screenshots or PDF lists on WhatsApp that claim the final list is out.
